Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)

HTMA testing - Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis - offers a look at your mineral patterns over the last 3 months to identify patterns that drive fatigue, anxiety, thyroid function, hormone imbalances and more!

Side Profile Woman

Minerals are the spark plugs of the body—tiny catalysts that activate thousands of enzymatic reactions involved in energy production, detoxification, hormone balance, nervous system function, and more. When minerals are out of balance, the body’s foundational chemistry shifts with them. HTMA helps us understand these shifts by measuring minerals where they matter most: inside the cells!

Most conventional lab work looks at blood serum, which reflects what’s happening outside your cells. But the body regulates blood levels very tightly, pulling minerals from tissues to keep serum within a narrow “safe” range. A blood result may appear normal even when intracellular levels are depleted. HTMA bypasses this problem by evaluating mineral and metal concentrations in your tissues, revealing long-term patterns in stress physiology, metabolic function, and nutrient status.

Many essential minerals—for example magnesium, which is predominantly stored in the cells—are far more concentrated intracellularly than in the bloodstream. Because of this, serum labs are often poor indicators of true chronic deficiencies. HTMA can show whether your cells are storing, wasting, or struggling to use these minerals effectively.

HTMA offers a unique window into underlying causes behind fatigue, anxiety, hormone imbalances, blood sugar dysregulation, and even thyroid function. While traditional testing focuses heavily on TSH—which tells us how the brain is signaling the thyroid—it doesn’t reveal how well your cells are actually using thyroid hormone. Key HTMA mineral ratios, such as calcium-to-potassium and sodium-to-potassium, reflect cellular thyroid responsiveness and metabolic activity.

HTMA highlights the "mineral blueprint" underlying many of the symptoms we tend to chase—fatigue, hormonal fluctuations, thyroid concerns, mood shifts, blood sugar issues, and more. By identifying and supporting these foundational mineral patterns, the body often regains the clarity and stability it needs to naturally rebalance hormones, improve metabolic function, and restore a greater sense of overall well-being.
